Woman Died in a Horrific Crash

On Monday, June 15, a woman died in a horrific crash in Omaha.

Diedre Toombs, aged 48, lost her husband to cancer in November 2012 and since then she was often unable to sleep at night. When that happened she would drive to the home of one of her three daughters in the middle of the night.

On this particular night, she left home around 2 a.m. and was driving at very high speed east on Sprague Street. She then drove across 52nd Street at the intersection, still at a high rate of speed and then went down an embankment and crashed into two utility poles in a parking lot at the Omaha Home for Boys.

Toombs was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the car. She was pronounced dead at the scene and police said that the accident was due to the fact she was driving at excessive speed and her death due to the fact she was not wearing a seat belt.

When neighbors saw the police outside her home they called her daughters, who then went to the scene only to discover that she had died.
