On Sunday, January 31, a woman from Council Bluffs ending up in a critical condition following a two vehicle wreck.
According to Omaha Police the accident happened at 2.15 a.m. near 33rd and L Streets in Omaha when 21 year old Sarah Root from Council Bluffs was driving a 2002 Oldsmobile Bravada east on L Street . She was stopped or at least slowing when she was rear-ended by a 2000 Chevrolet 2500 pickup truck driven by 19 year old Eswin Mejia of Omaha.
Root was taken to Nebraska Medicine in a critical condition and Mejia was also taken there for a leg injury.
Mejia, who doesn’t have a valid driver’s license, was then booked into the Douglas County Jail under suspicion of driving drunk. He also has an outstanding arrest warrant going back to May 2015 for failure to appear for several traffic infractions, including driving without a license.
