Man Smashed a Pick Up into Bagel Shop

On Tuesday night, September 29, a man deliberately smashed a pick up into a bagel shop In Omaha.

According to Omaha police the incident happened at around 11 p.m. at the Bruegger’s Bagels near 127th and West Center Road.

The owner of the SUV was Dakota Reinert, and he and his friend, Nicholas Johnson had been out eating at a nearby restaurant. They left the restaurant and went to sit in the truck in the parking lot and Johnson was texting on his phone and became distraught. Reinert decided to give him some time alone and left the truck to go for a walk. The keys of the truck were in the ignition, and some ten minutes later Reinert returned to see the truck had been smashed into Bruegger’s Bagels and Johnson was unconscious inside.

Reinert smashed the window in and crawled into the vehicle with his friend, checking his heartbeat while waiting for emergency services to arrive. He confirms that the crash was intentional as he saw his last text messages to his family and friends on his telephone.

Omaha Police said Bruegger’s Bagels sustained serious damage and the business had to remain closed the following day. They confirmed that the investigation was in process and no decision has yet been made as to whether citations will be issued.
