On Monday, March 21 a man died after a fiery accident in Omaha.
According to police the accident happened near 114th and Frances streets around 2 a.m. A silver 2004 Chevy Monte Carlo being driven by 31 year old Blake Ridenour was eastbound on Frances Street before going up a hill and crossing onto 114th Street. Ridenour reportedly ran into at least three mailboxes and crashed into one pickup truck before driving into a yard and colliding head on with a tree and bursting into flames.
Ridenour was trapped inside and when the neighbors saw the vehicle in flames they called 911 and tried to extinguish the flames with fire extinguishers and a garden hose but to no avail. Fire units arrived and extinguished the blaze but were not able to save Ridenour’s life.
Police are investigating if alcohol and speed were factors and closed 114th Street from Frances to Martha streets around 2.15 a.m., re opening the road around 6.15 a.m.
