Man Killed in Forklift Incident

A man was killed in an accident with a forklift on Monday night.

According to police, 54 year old George Young, of Fremont, was operating a forklift at Midwest Manufacturing and the Menards Distribution Center in Valley Monday night where he was working the late shift. He had been working there for two years.

Police went on to say that when he backed up he pinned himself between the machine and a shelving unit. Employees at the site performed CPR and a helicopter was called to take him to hospital. However he was pronounced dead at the scene shortly before 10.00 p.m.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident and they have revealed that the company was cited in February 2012 and October 2013 for unrelated violations.

Police have classified the incident as an industrial accident but said that an autopsy would be performed on Tuesday morning.

A spokeswoman for Midwest Manufacturing, which is a division of Menards home-improvement stores, refused to comment.

Midwest Manufacturing, which has facilities in nine states, manufactures pre-form trusses for buildings, paver blocks and metal roofs for commercial buildings and residential homes.
