Collision Between School Bus and Truck Sends Four to Hospital

On Monday, August 22, a collision between a school bus and a truck sent four people to the hospital.

According to Platte County Sheriff the accident happened shortly after 3.30 p.m. on 83rd Street in Columbus, when 41 year old James Lemburg of Columbus was driving a 2002 International School Bus with sixty school children on board. The bus was westbound on 83rd Street and rear-ended a 2002 Chevy Avalanche being driving by 29 year old Brian Zierke of Columbus who was waiting for oncoming traffic to pass so that he could turn into Lake North.

No one on the school bus was injured nor was Zierke was uninjured but four passengers inside the Avalanche were taken to the hospital following the accident The three adults were treated and then released. However, a six year old girl was one of the passengers in the Avalanche and she was seriously injured and flown by medical helicopter to be treated at an Omaha hospital.
