Two Omaha Police Officers Injured in a Crash

On Sunday, August 9, two police officers from Omaha were injured in a crash.

According to authorities the accident happened around 6.30 p.m. near 20th and Dodge. Two police officers were driving two cruisers to Douglas Country Department of Corrections taking several people in custody so that they could be booked into the jail. They were traveling toward Dodge Street when a Grand Prix ran a red light and hit the first of the cruisers. The second one was not involved.

The two officers in the first cruiser, Scott Richter and Brian Korth were taken to Nebraska Medicine with what are said to be non life threatening injuries. One of the passengers in the cruiser was also taken to hospital.

The Grand Prix was being driven by 24 year old Bethany Kampe, who had borrowed the vehicle from Alex Thompsett. When he arrived at the scene he saw that his car was totaled and that Kampe had also been taken to hospital with injuries.

Several witnesses saw the crash and confirmed that Kampe had run a red light. In addition she will face charges for driving without a license, although she had confirmed to Thompsett that she had one.
