On Wednesday, May 14, four people were injured in northwest Omaha in a four vehicle crash.
According to Omaha police the crash happened around 1 p.m. at North 147th Street and West Maple Road. Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office spotted a 2003 Saturn SL1 being driven recklessly. The Saturn, being driven by 54 year old Terry Goeser, of Columbus, Nebraska, was eastbound on West Maple Road approaching 147th Street when he drove through a red light at 147th Street. The Saturn then collided with a 2000 Toyota Avalon driven by 56 year old Douglas Larson of Omaha that was turning left onto West Maple Road from northbound 147th Street with a green light.
The force of the crash led the Saturn to hit two other vehicles which were waiting to turn left onto 147th Street from westbound West Maple. A 2005 International 4300 series work truck driven by 31 year old Eric Vanscoy of Council Bluffs and a 2011 Ford Ranger pickup driven by 63 year old Arlynn Close, 63, of Omaha.
Goeser was taken to the Nebraska Medical Center with a back fracture; Larson, who had neck pain and a passenger in the Toyota, 65 year old William Schoenfeld, of Omaha with hip pain were both taken to Immanuel Medical Center and later released and Vanscoy was taken to Methodist Hospital with neck pain and released. Close was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation. Police said that Goeser was intoxicated and driving recklessly and around 40 minutes before the crash, he had been involved in a police pursuit in Washington County.
